Nairobi, Kenya

On Tuesday, May 5, the Patriarch, Archbishop Jones, Bishop Njoroge, Father Charles Brown and Father Scott Howard had the privilege of meeting with His Excellency Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Vice-President of Kenya and Minister of Home Affairs. The Vice-President welcomed us warmly and expressed his appreciation for the work the CEC is doing throughout Kenya. The Patriarch thanked the Vice-President for his time and for his support of our Church.

Father Charles Brown, VP of Programs for Bridges of America and the Society of St Dismas, explained the ministries’ substance abuse programs and their process for preparing recently released inmates to succeed outside of prison. The Vice-President was very interested in Fr Charles’s work and asked many questions. He expressed his sincere hope that the CEC could help Kenya in their work to improve their prison system and substance abuse prevention and rehabilitation programs.

We were originally scheduled to visit for 15 minutes but were granted 45 minutes. The Patriarch prayed for the Vice President and for Kenya, thanked him for his time, then the state photographer took many photos.

Also attending the meeting were the Commissioner of Prisons and the Permanent Secretary to the Vice-President and Ministry of Home Affairs.
